Curriculum as a Connected System.
As Graphic Design Program Coordinator, I review learning evidence, assessment results, sequencing, prerequisites, and student performance to guide program decisions.
Industry-Informed Curriculum Planning
Engagement with the Visual Arts Advisory Board, AAF, AIGA, and industry professionals informs curriculum updates to improve prerequisite sequencing and student mobility, remove outdated courses, and introduce new topics such as research methods, information design, entrepreneurship, AR/VR, experience design, and emerging media offerings.
Comprehensive Curriculum Revisions
Conducted a five-year review that led to a comprehensive curriculum revision moving the Graphic Design program toward a stronger balance of print and digital design. Introduced new courses to the major, including Image Studio, Type Studio I, Web Design Studio, and Interactive Design, as well as elective offerings in Motion Graphic and Package Design. This established a clearer design sequence, expanded advanced electives, and revised the Graphic Design minor. External review recommendations, design education research, professional expectations, and comparisons with other institutions informed these changes.
Contribution + ImpactThis work strengthened the coherence and disciplinary relevance of both the major and minor. It addressed foundational gaps and created pathways into digital practice while preserving the broader purposes of a liberal arts education.
Continuing Innovation
Developed required coursework in foundational studios, upper-level design courses, special topics, independent studies, and learning communities. Courses span typography, web, interactive, and branding design and continue to evolve through embedded UX research, accessibility, responsive design, 3D workflows, and critical use of AI-assisted production.
Program Growth
Helped establish and grow the BFA in Graphic Design at Flagler College. Researched 31 programs and gathered alumni feedback to propose additional electives, a required internship, and a research-based design thesis.
Contribution + ImpactThe BFA expanded the College’s degree options and provided an intensive pathway for students seeking advanced studio work and undergraduate research.
