Guidance That Opens Doors.
Mentorship is central to my approach to design education. I work with students to extend their learning beyond the classroom through undergraduate research, creative competitions, professional networking, industry experiences, and career development. These opportunities challenge students to apply their knowledge in new contexts, gain confidence in their abilities, and engage with professional standards. My goal is not simply to help students produce stronger work, but to create opportunities for them to grow as independent designers, researchers, and emerging professionals.
My Role as a Mentor
My mentorship extends beyond traditional classroom instruction through individualized guidance, iterative critique, research advising, competition preparation, and professional connections. I help students develop ideas, evaluate their creative decisions, refine their work, and communicate their thinking to audiences beyond the classroom.
Through my involvement with professional organizations, industry partnerships, and undergraduate research, I connect students with designers, creative directors, agencies, and experiences that expand their understanding of the profession. These relationships create opportunities for professional feedback, recognition, internships, and continued creative development.
Evidence of Impact
The impact of my mentorship is reflected in student recognition, independent professional evaluation, undergraduate research, and career opportunities. These achievements demonstrate how sustained guidance and access to professional experiences can support student development while extending the visibility of Flagler College's Graphic Design program.

Undergraduate Research & Creative Achievement
I mentor students as they investigate complex design challenges, develop research-informed concepts, and translate their findings into creative solutions. Through Honors capstone projects and the National Student Advertising Competition, students engage in research, strategic thinking, experimentation, collaboration, and professional presentation.
My role includes guiding the research and creative process, challenging assumptions, providing constructive feedback, and helping students develop the independence needed to make informed design decisions.
These experiences encourage students to approach design as a process of inquiry rather than simply visual production.
Professional Exposure & Industry Connections
Professional engagement provides students with opportunities to learn directly from practicing designers, creative directors, and industry leaders. Through AAF Student AdPath, The One Club for Creativity, AIGA, and professional portfolio reviews, I help students prepare for experiences that introduce them to professional expectations and creative career pathways.
My mentorship includes preparing students for portfolio reviews, encouraging professional networking, guiding participation in creative competitions, and supporting their transition into professional environments.
These experiences extend learning beyond campus and help students develop the confidence, communication skills, and professional relationships necessary to pursue opportunities in the design industry.
From Recognition to Opportunity
While awards and competition results provide external recognition of student achievement, the broader impact of mentorship extends into students' professional development.
Students I have mentored have pursued opportunities arising from professional experiences, including a paid summer internship with The Community in Miami following The One Club Creative Boot Camp and a freelance opportunity connected to the St. Augustine Lighthouse project.
These examples demonstrate how connecting academic learning with authentic professional experiences can create pathways from student work to professional practice.
